Denver marijuana dispensary owners deny alleged ties to Colombian drug cartels

The owners of one of Colorado’s largest marijuana clinics are denying allegations their business has ties to Colombian drug cartels.

Federal agents raided several dispensaries in Denver and Boulder on Thursday, including VIP Cannabis a Federal Boulevard and Alameda Avenue, but so far have made no arrests.

Feds Raid Medical Marijuana Businesses In Colorado

Today federal agents, assisted by local police, staged the biggest crackdown on marijuana dispensaries in Colorado since the state legalized cannabis for medical use in 2000. The Denver Post reports that the raids hit more than a dozen dispensaries in the Denver area, plus businesses in Boulder and elsewhere.

Federal officials wouldn’t give specific reasons for the raid, other than to say one of eight federal concerns around marijuana have potentially been violated.

Banks To Get Guidance On Doing Business With Legal Marijuana Shops

Banks, worried about running afoul of federal money-laundering law in dealing with state-authorized marijuana businesses, may soon receive some much-needed guidance from U.S. agencies.

Because a federal prohibition of marijuana is still in place, most banks do not work with marijuana businesses in states that have legalized them for fear they might be charged with money laundering or failing to comply with other federal laws.
